"My
farm consists of 2400 acres and is situated north east
of Minnedosa, Manitoba. I farm a variety of
soil types,
some which is heavy and some which is lighter soil."
"I have owned 4 Bourgault air drills over the years.
My first was a 5700 air drill at 7-inch spacing. Then
I bought
a new 5710 at 7-inch spacing. Four years ago I bought
a new 40 foot 5710 at 9.8 inch spacing with mid-row banders.
At first I was skeptical about the 9.8 inch spacing because
I had never used any seeding tool with a spacing greater
than 7 inches. The only way I could get Mid Row Banders
was with a 9.8-inch spacing and Wendell talked me into
it. I find I have good swath support using narrow spoons
so the 9.8-inch spacing is no longer a concern. All my
lighter land is zero-tilled, so if it is a dry fall
I will only go over it with my Bourgault 7200 Heavy Harrow
to bust up the straw and spread it evenly across the
field."
"This spring I purchased a new 5710 at 47 feet with mid-row
banders. I really like this unit because it has shorter
wings and I feel it works better in my hilly terrain. I
have used Mid Row Banders for 4 years now and I like the
fact that I have the ability to
sow right into stubble, put all my anhydrous ammonia down
and use a starter fertilizer with the seed, all with one
pass. This unit has tremendous trash
clearance."
"I used to cultivate, apply NH3, and then sow. However,
one pass savings are substantial, especially now with
the price of diesel fuel, labor, and machinery costs.
This system has been trouble free and I have never even
had one bearing failure in the four years that I have
used
Mid Row
Banders."
"Mid Row
Banders save a pass over the field, which saves money.
I’m sure I get more value from my fertilizer by
applying it in the spring. My yields have increased since
I started
using Mid Row
Banders."
