and Dean Penner seed with confidence because Mid
Row Bander® systems, in all conditions, eliminate the risk of poor
emergence due to fertilizer burn. |
|
 |
In 1999 the Penner’s purchased a 54’ 5710
Air Hoe Drill, at 9.8” spacing
with Mid Row Banders®, and a 5000
Series Air Seeder. This unit has seeded about 17,000 acres
so far. They added
a
second
drill a 40’, model
5710 with MRBs spring of 2001 to help to handle an increased
acreage.
Earl explains how their drills have performed. “Our
two 5710 drills with MRBs gives us excellent seed and fertilizer
separation. We have a wide variety of soil conditions,
from sandy to heavy clay, and needed a drill that can give
us seed and fertilizer separation no matter what the soil
type or the condition wet or dry.
We have been very pleased with the performance of the 5710’s
in those areas and we always have the peace of mind that
we are not compromising seedbed quality for fertilizer
placement. MRBs give us the option of pushing our rates
of nitrogen up in sensitive crops like canola even in dry
spring conditions without running the risk of seed burn.
|
The
5000 series cart with multi-shoot capabilities gives
us the ability to fully utilize our tank’s capacity,
from seeding crops with lower fertilizer requirements,
to small seed crops with higher fertilizer requirements.
We can also make airstream switches to quickly.” With
the MRB system, there has never been a problem with excessive
seed to fertilizer separation or weed growth acceleration
due to fertilizer coulter running in between rows. “These
items are not an issue. The crops respond ideally to
the mid row fertilizer band making it the best location
for maximum plant development”, comments Dean.
With
MRBs the Penners have the freedom to use an opener that
is right for
their soil type and conditions. To date, Bourgault’s ¾” knives
with carbide points have delivered good results and durability.
The ability to adapt to different seeding conditions quickly
and easily is a real plus with an MRB system. |
