Need to Aid Penetration: Bourgault developed the
5 row floating hitch cultivator in the mid 1980's. In the
last 15 years the design has been refined into today's proven
8810.
In a similar time period Flexi-Coil has released models
600, 700, 800, & 820. The design has been circular going
from a diagonal hinged wing with the 600 to total independent
ranks with the 700 to semi-independent rows with the 800
and back to a diagonal hinged wing design with the 820.
Why all the change? The answer can be found in resale value.
A 50% premium for used Bourgault tillage is not uncommon.

The
Morris Concept 2000 is designed as a floating wing with
a tricycle type stance. Why is it that all-terrain vehicles
are not available in a 3-wheel configuration and only 4
wheel? The answer is stability.
Even penetration is a problem with all cultivators. Cultivator
openers do not easily penetrate the ground. To make matters
worse openers such as sweeps need down force to enter the
ground and then provide suction once they have penetrated
the ground. A one-piece frame like on the Bourgault 8810
is the best solution for even penetration. As the individual
openers encounter hard spots, the one-piece frame is capable
of transferring weight to these individual openers for even
penetration. Floating or independent frames and are not
as stable and not as capable of weight transfer. The result
is uneven working depths.
The 8810 frame is designed with the strength to carry the
extra weight of Mid Row Banders® and field markers.
Competitor's cultivators have not been designed to handle
Mid Row Banders®, and field markers are not recommended
for the Morris Concept 2000. |
