SPS™ SectionsSPS365 Soil Prep System

A VERSATILE SEEDBED PREPARATION IMPLEMENT

The Soil Prep Systems use a combination of ground engaging sections to prepare the soil, each of which can be individually set or parked up, depending on the conditions encountered.

1. Coulter Section

The Coulter section effectively sizes residue, and avoids the effects of hair-pinning

Effortlessly Cuts and Resizes Straw

The coulter section effectively sizes residue, yet avoids the effects of hair-pinning since it goes deeper than the intended shank depth.

The coulters are mounted with rubber torsion elements that are capable of transferring the force necessary to cut heavy straw, pea vines, unharvested swathes

  • The notched, 20" diameter straight coulters are placed on 12" centers and mounted on a hydraulically actuated rockshaft, using shims on the hydraulic cylinders to set the operational depth relative to the openers.
  • The coulters are mounted with rubber torsion elements that are capable of transferring the force necessary to cut heavy straw, pea vines, unharvested swathes or other heavy residue, yet offer shock absorption when encountering rocks or other obstacles.

  • The coulters can be quickly lifted and locked out when they are not required.
  • Heavy-duty sealed hubs are utilized to ensure maintenance-free performance.

2. Shank Section

The soft recoil of the hydraulic trip is well suited for higher speed operation as the lowered impact loading and vibration will minimize wear and damage.

Effectively Work the Soil & Incorporate Straw

The SPS shank section effectively incorporates field residue, yet preserves some of the existing soil bed.

Three rows of heavy-duty hydraulic trips can be adjusted up to 1,000 lbs of trip force.
  • Three rows of heavy-duty hydraulic trips can be adjusted up to 1,000 lb of trip force. The combination of adjustable trip force and a heavy, durable frame ensures consistent penetration even in the hardest soil conditions.
  • The hydraulic trip option for the SPS365™ provides good results at 6 mph and best results when operating between 7½-8½ mph.  The soft recoil of the hydraulic trip is well suited for higher speed operation as the lowered impact loading and vibration will minimize wear and damage.

  • When not required, the hydraulic trips can be lifted and locked out during operation.
  • Both models are offered with 500 lb and 600 lb spring trips for when the added cost of a hydraulic trip spring is not required.
  • Air kits for both 6000 and 7000 Series Air Carts are also available for granular fertilizer application.
  • Simple and reliable design.

3. Primary Finishing Section

The primary finishing section for both models are available with 3-bar heavy-duty harrows equipped with ½" x 20" tines, or 4-bar standard harrows with 7/16" x 16" tines.

Break Up Clumps & Distribute Residue

The harrow sections are mounted directly behind the trips to level out the soil clumps and residue.

  • The parallel harrow arm maintains the angle of the harrow gang as the height is adjusted.
  • The harrows are arranged in 4' to 8' sections with reinforced mounts designed for long service life during aggressive higher speed operation.

4. Secondary Finishing Section

Optional rolling basket delivers the final and one of the most critical operations

Effectively Level & Firm Soil

Optional rolling baskets deliver the final and one of the most critical operations – leveling the soil and breaking up lumps to create an even and firm surface, ready for seeding.

If additional smoothing of the field residue is required, mounted 3- or 4-bar harrows are also available in this section.

  • The 14" diameter rolling baskets consist of eight, 1" diameter rods on a spiral profile.
  • Convenient hydraulic control allows the Operator to adjust the downforce in the field, as well as to lift the baskets up completely if not required.

  • Optional 3-Bar Heavy-Duty Harrows equipped with ½" x 20" tines, or 4-Bar Standard Harrows with ⁷⁄₁₆" x 16" tines are available.
