THE PLDS™ OPENER

Improved Approach to a Dual-Knife

The parallel linkage design maintains the fertilizer knife angle to soil flow as the arm follows field undulations.

The result is improved furrow development and more precise seed and fertilizer placement when compared to competitive dual shank openers.

Note: Available on SE & QDA ParaLink Hoe Drills™

PLDS typical soil profile

The PLDS™ Opener provides a 4:3 contour ratio for the seed knife, placing the seed above and to the side of the fertilizer knife.

Just like competitive dual-knife units, the PLDS™ Opener will not guarantee adequate seed to fertilizer separation in all conditions. This close seed-to-fertilizer proximity can result in reduced emergence, especially with higher nitrogen fertilizer rates in dry seeding conditions.

PLDS with Trimax and Mid Row Bander soil profile

The horizontal knife-to-knife distance of the PLDS™ Opener can be easily adjusted for increased separation, however, this adjustment further increases seedbed disturbance and reduces residue clearance. The solution is to combine the PLDS™ Openers with the Mid Row Bander® Fertilizer Applicators to create the TriMax™ Triple-Shoot Delivery System eliminating the risk of seed damage from toxic fertilizer common to the dual-knife openers.

3725QDA ParaLink Coulter Drill™

  • The Quick Depth Adjust drill frame offers the unique ability to adjust seeding depth at the frame quickly and easily.
  • Adjustment shims at each rear running gear provides a total of 3/4;" of total adjustment range.
  • Producers can adjust seeding depth from field-to-field and achieve the best seeding job possible without sacrificing productivity.

QDA Shims

The 3725QDA uses a hydraulic cylinder and shim assembly on each rear carrier wheel to set the seed depth. Adding or removing shims changes the angle of the frame, which results in seed depth change because of the unique geometry of the PLW opener. The total range of seed depth change with the Quick Depth Adjust is 3/4".

XP DUO™ METERS

  • The XP DUO™ Meters (eXact Placement™ Meters) use positive air pressure to hold the seed onto the planter plate. The same positive pressure delivers the seed evenly to the opener, thus gravity and hilly fields are not an issue for the accuracy of the Air Planter™.
  • The electric meter drives are controlled independently through the Topcon Apollo System to provide turn compensation and eliminate overlap at the headlands.
  • Sensors respond to each seed that leaves the meter, giving you complete visibility of Air Planter™ performance.
  • This unique dual meter can deliver singulated seed to two narrow-row units or a single wide-row unit!
  • Dedicated fan(s) supply positive pressure air to each XP DUO™ Meter, and automatically adjust to a set pressure.

PLR™ Opener Arm Design

The ParaLink Row™ Opener (PLR™) provides two very distinct advantages in today's coulter drill market:

  1. Developed in conjunction with the Air Planter™ System, the PLR™ offers Producers the distinct advantage of seeding and planting with the same implement!
  2. The durability and ingenuity built into the PLR™ Opener makes it longer lasting and easier to set than the competition getting many seasons out of wearing components such as coulters or scraper boots.

Seed Depth Adjustment

The Depth Adjustment on the PLR opener is quick and accurate.
  • Lift the locking knob and move the adjustment arm to a different setting to change the position of the gauge wheel.

Adjust Packer Angle

The PLR opener allows for packer wheel angle adjustment.
  • The PLR™ Opener allows you to adjust the packer wheel angle to direct the optimal amount of soil into the furrow.

The Firming Wheel

The Firmer Wheel presses the seed into the bottom of the furrow.
  • The Firming Wheel follows behind the air seeder kit and Air Planter™ boots to press the seed and starter ferilizer into the bottom of the furrow. This ensures consistent placement and good seed-to-soil contact for the best possible environment for germination.

Packer Wheel Adjustment

A simple spring arrangement provides adjustable packing pressure.
  • Packing pressure can be adjusted from 90 to 180 lb per wheel. This is set by adjusting the tension on the coil spring mounted on the packer arm. A special lever, stored in a holder on the drill frame, is used to adjust the tension.
