400 Floating Hitch Chisel Plow

The 400 Series Chisel Plow was designed to combine all the features of a high performance chisel plow into an economically priced tillage unit without sacrificing penetration, trash clearance and contourability.

The 400 Series Chisel Plow was designed to combine all the features of a high performance chisel plow into an economically priced tillage unit without sacrificing penetration, trash clearance and contourability.

  • 28' to 42' working widths, 12" spacing
  • The 4-row frame construction offers superior shank spacing with a minimum row shank spacing of 36" and a sweep pattern formulated for maximum trash flow.
  • The combination caster wheel / walking-axle / hydraulic lift system allows the frame to remain parallel to the land at all times and at whatever depth you desire without any adjustment.
  • Good floatation is achieved with twelve tires positioned under the 3-plex models, and eighteen under the 5-plex models.

  • The 400 Series offers excellent floatation.Frame - 4" tubular frame, 4-row construction, 8'6" frame depth with 4" x 3" tubular hitch
  • Hydraulic System
    • Wheel-lift system - rephasing Cessna Wyrlock cylinders connected in series
    • Wing-lift system, Sanborn cylinders
    • 5/8" and 3/8" lines with a zinc chromate finish
  • Precise Depth Control - A Double Line Lock/Pressure Limit Valve was exclusive to our slave cylinder hydraulic depth-control system. It improves cultivator depth control and overall system performance in many ways.
    • The hydraulic pressure to the system is kept low when the cultivator is lowered to the depth stop. This means the unit can be raised off the depth stop while still maintaining consistent depth from the wings to the center section.
    • This valve ensures no oil transfer between the cultivator depth control system and the tractor. The operator can now raise the unit off the depth stop to work at a shallower depth for long periods of time without having the cultivator creep deeper into the soil. Locking the return side of the slave system ensures that the wing sections maintain a precise depth setting.
    • This special valve also eliminates hydraulic creep on the depth control while transporting the cultivator, eliminating the need for the operator to adjust his wheel lift hydraulic system. The result is less danger of an operator accidentally dropping the unit to the ground at highway road speeds.
  • Scissor-Type Wing-Lift - Scissor-type wing-lift transport system.
  • Hitch pivot - Hitch pivot with front and back anti-tip protection.

400 FHCP Features & Options

The 400 Series Chisel Plow provides contour-ability & floatation.
  • 400 lb. initial tension spring cushion shank assembly.
  • Ductile steel trip casting with a single 1" pivot point and Nylatron wear bushing
  • 1¼"  x 2" tempered shanks

Two extension springs hold your spring cushion in tension at all timesPenetration Capability

The problem with most conventional chisel plows is that the initial tension of the shank assembly is set much too high to achieve maximum penetration. The 400 Series Bourgault shank assembly is designed with a 400 lb. initial tension at a 3 degree no load sweep pitch; as the sweep encounters soil resistance greater than 400 lbs. , the sweep attack angle and initial tension both increase directly proportional to the soil resistance thus utilizing suction forces to enhance the penetration capability. The combination of penetration capability, cultivator weight and superior floatation insures precise depth control.

All 400 series cultivators use a 400 lb. initial tension spring cushion shank assembly with a combination of outstanding features:

  • Ductile steel castings with side load protection lugs to ensure long bushing life.
  • 1" x 2" tempered shank.
  • There is only one wear point on each spring cushion assembly. That wear point has a nylatron bushing which requires no greasing and is exceedingly resistant to wear. When wear inevitably occurs, simply replace the bushing and the 7 /8'' bolt and the spring cushion is completely reconditioned.
  • Two extension springs hold your spring cushion in tension at all times.
