The Bourgault Series 3320 & 3420 PHD™ drills allow you to choose the opener and packer wheel combination that will work best for your conditions and farming techniques.

Opener Design
The design of the PHD Seed Opener Assembly and XTC Seed Opener Assembly guarantee the same angle of attack relative to soil flow, regardless of it's position. This feature ensure that soil flow will not change as the packer wheel follows the seedbed profile. Both seed opener designs incorporate an edge-on style shank to minimize soil disturbance and soil throw. The shank provides two different mounting locations to ensure the best placement for the seeding tip selected.

Packer - Opener Selection
It is critical to match your opener with the right packer wheel for the best seeding results. Bourgault offers a number of packer options to suit your requirements. Please note that these are general guidelines and may not suit specific requirements for every condition.
  • The 6-ply 4.8" (122mm) pneumatic packer #with tube# can be adjusted from 12 to 50 psi (83 to 345 kPa) to meet a wide range of seeding conditions with various openers.
  • The 4.5” (114mm) semi-pneumatic provides a wide rounded packing profile and typically matched with a ¾” to 2” (19 to 76mm) wide opener.
  • The 5.4" (137mm) semi-pneumatic provides a wide rounded packing profile and typically matched with a 2” to 4” (51 to 102mm) wide opener.
  • The 4.5" (114mm) V-Style semi-pneumatic provides a more aggressive, narrow profile with excellent mud shedding characteristics, and commonly used with narrow openers.
